We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment.
Information Sharing
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

Online Safety
At Gonville Academy we embrace the use of new technologies. We promote the use of ICT to enhance learning and thinking and teach all of the children how to keep themselves safe. All adults in school ensure that pupils know how to report incidents and problems confidently and straight away.
At home, many children use computers to play games and learn. We want to encourage you to ensure children are supervised at all times at home, especially when accessing the internet.
IT IS OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE THAT CHILDREN DO NOT SIGN-UP TO SOCIAL MEDIA OR OTHER SITES SITES FOR WHICH THEY ARE UNDERAGE. Eg: Whatsapp, Facebook, BBM etc. are not for children of Primary School age.

- When your child is using the internet at school or at home it is very important that they stay safe. We teach children to FLAG IT, BLOCK IT & REPORT IT if they see anything on the internet they are concerned about.
- Pupils are taught at school how to stay safe when using the internet on the computer, an Ipad or a mobile phone. It is also a good idea to talk about these safety issues at home with your child.
- If you are worried about anything your child has seen on the internet you should report it to the police.
- Remember, when using any computer, tablet or phone devices, children need to be SMART

Only open emails & texts from people you trust

Some people online tell lies, only talk to real world friends and family

Prevent Strategy
As part of Gonville Academy’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection we fully support the government’s Prevent Strategy. As part of our annual Safeguarding trainings, we ensure that members of our team are aware of governmental priorities.
What is the Prevent Strategy?
The Prevent strategy is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. As described in official documents published by Her Majesty’s Government, the Prevent Strategy:
- responds to the ideological challenge we face from terrorism and aspects of extremism, and the threat we face from those who promote these views
- provides practical help to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure they are given appropriate advice and support
- works with a wide range of sectors (including education, criminal justice, faith, charities, online and health)
