Pastoral Care

At Gonville Academy, we give a high priority to the well-being and development of every child. We are dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where children feel safe, happy, and valued throughout their educational journey, enabling them to unlock their full potential. We place a strong emphasis on collaboration with both students and their families, fostering positive and meaningful relationships that promote healthy social and emotional growth. Our objective is to cultivate an inclusive environment where students can excel not only academically but also in various aspects of school life and beyond.

Our Pastoral support system plays a pivotal role in providing support to students, ensuring their full engagement in learning while addressing any obstacles they may encounter.

We offer a range of interventions designed to assist students in overcoming challenges. These include a comprehensive range of support and initiatives to nurture the well-being of our students, including:

  • The Thrive Approach: We offer both one-on-one and group sessions to address various emotional and social needs.

  • Thrive Class Targets: Our classes set specific targets to promote emotional well-being and personal growth.

  • Pastoral check-in Sessions: Students can access support and guidance from our pastoral team whenever they need it.

  • Zones of Regulation: We teach students strategies to manage and regulate their emotions effectively.

  • Behaviour Support: within the classroom and on the playground to promote and reinforce positive behaviour among our students.

  • Worry Boxes: In every class throughout Key Stage 1 & 2, students have access to 'worry boxes' where they can share concerns, which are monitored by teachers.

  • Open Communication: We encourage students to share their concerns with us at any time.

  • Health and Well-being Assemblies: We conduct assemblies to educate students on the importance of health and well-being.

  • Children's Mental Health Day: We actively participate in events like Children's Mental Health Day to raise awareness.

  • Peer Mentors: Peer mentors are available on the playground to offer support and guidance.

  • Wellbeing Room: We provide a safe and supportive space where students can discuss and manage their worries.

  • Sensory Room: Our sensory room is designed to help students relax and regulate their emotions.

  • Wellbeing Wall: The wellbeing wall on the playground serves as a visual reminder of our commitment to well-being.
